Do I need to buy an SSL digital certificate? E-mail
If you need to use the public (Internet-facing) web server to deliver secure (https) web pages to the public you will need a site certificate that is digitally signed by one of the certificate authorities that are built-into the major browsers such as Internet Explorer®.

If your secure pages are only provided to a small group, such as your employees and business partners, you can reduce this expense and use the private CA certificates that we can provide to you with your ONS Managed Server.  Our private certificates provide 128-bit encryption, just like VeriSign and Thawte, but at less cost to you.  They are created using the ONS Certificate Authority.  The only requirement to use them is that until the ONS "Root Certificate" is installed on the client computer, users will receive a warning message each time someone enters your secure site.

Installation of the ONS Root Certificate only needs to be done once for each client computer.

If you would like to purchase an ONS private certificate or a globally-recognized secure site certificate, please contact Customer Support for assistance.
