Does the server use the Windows® operating system? E-mail

ONS Managed Servers do not run any software written by or for Microsoft® Windows®.  This creates a tremendous security advantage for our customers. Our servers are not affected by the more than 100,000 known viruses that are a security threat to servers running Microsoft® Windows®.

The operating system used in our server is advanced operating system for x86 compatible (including Pentium and Athlon), amd64 compatible (including Opteron, Athlon 64, and EM64T), Alpha/AXP, IA-64, PC-98 and UltraSPARC® architectures. It is derived from BSD, the version of UNIX® developed at the University of California, Berkeley.

The ONS server operating system offers advanced networking, performance, security and compatibility features today which are still missing in other operating systems, even some of the best commercial ones.

The most reliable servers on the Internet today run versions of BSD. Chart here.
