Why do you need a phone line at the server? E-mail

The modem and the (required) fax/data phone lines serve three purposes:

  1. It is an outbound fax server and is used to deliver your faxes to others.
  2. It is an inbound fax server and is used to receive faxes from others.
  3. It is a backup connection used for the management and monitoring of the server.  This capability is critical when your Internet connection is down. Without it, we would have no way to manage the server without physically going on-site.  Naturally, this would make the cost of our service much higher and would add substantial delays to the time we would need to correct server problems.
